IKEA FAMILY “FOOT OF FOREST” CAMPAIGN

Did you know that every time you swipe your IKEA FAMILY card, IKEA makes a donation to the Tree Council to create one square foot of forest?
IKEA has teamed up with the Tree Council of Ireland and Fingal County Council to present the IKEA FAMILY Foot of ForestCampaign. As part of a three year project IKEA has committed to donating a square foot of forest on behalf of its IKEA FAMILY members every time they swipe their FAMILY loyalty card in store. The aim of this initiative is to create native Irish woodland which will encourage IKEA FAMILY members and the local community to visit and enjoy nature. Other environmental benefits include the creation of a wildlife habitat, absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and enhanced local biodiversity.
In 2010, the partnership created 5 acres of native Irish woodland at Turvey Park & Santry Demense, an equivalent to the total floor space of the Dublin store. The project at Santry Demesne focused on woodland restoration whilst at Turvey Park a greenfield site was used to create new woodland. The trees planted include a mix of oak, birch, and alder. In 2011, a further 5 acres is being planted to create two new woodland areas located at Northwood Park, Santry and Millenium Park, Blanchardstown.
The IKEA FAMILY Woodland is part of IKEA’s social and environmental commitment to have a positive impact on the environment. As timber is the most important raw material for IKEA products, IKEA has a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to the sustainable management of woodlands worldwide.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative in February 2010, Garry Deakin, IKEA Dublin’s Store Manager said: “As a local company we want to give something back to the environment and working together with the Tree Council of Ireland and our customers, this campaign can make a difference to the local landscape and to the local community”.
THE IKEA FAMILY Loyalty Card Programme, is free for all IKEA customers to join. The more IKEA FAMILY members we get to swipe, the more woodlands we will create. So tell your friends and family! MORE.
