VODAFONE IRELAND PAPERLESS BILLING TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME

Vodafone Ireland is planting four new woodlands, one in each of the four provinces, for customers that switch to paperless billing.
Vodafone Ireland is committed to improving the lives of people and the environment by offering innovative and sustainable technologies and we understand our responsibility to the Irish community to be a sustainable business. As a response to the growing threat of climate change, we developed the Green Agenda with the ambitious target to reduce our CO2 emissions by 30% by 2011. The Green Agenda involves an extensive programme of activity to enable us to reach our environmental targets while making sustainability a core part of our business. Since its start, we have successfully reduced our CO2 emissions by 34%.
We want to be sure that our customers are able to act in an environmentally responsible way whether through purchasing low carbon products and services or the proper disposal of our products at the end of their life. One of these services is paperless billing. The use of paper negatively impacts the environment in many ways, including the trees, water and energy required to make the paper and the release of greenhouse gas emissions when the paper is disposed. Our research shows that we use a tree for every 72 customers on a paper bill.
To engage our customers in paperless billing, we have collaborated with the Tree Council of Ireland to plant one tree for every 72 customers that switch to paperless billing. Once customers switch to paperless billing, they can choose which province they would like the tree planted and track this through our Vodafone Ireland Facebook page. If even half of our customers switched to paperless billing, we could save more than 3,000 trees!
More information can be found on the 'Hello Trees' tab on the Vodafone Ireland Facebook page or to switch to paperless billing visit www.vodafone.ie/hellotrees.
