Tree Council Initiatives

The Tree Council co-ordinates a number of national initiatives such as National Tree Week in
partnership with Coillte and Tree Day in partnership with Tetra Pak while supporting worthwhile
community projects such as the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition.

Our Tree Scheme allows you to commemorate a loved one or an important event by giving you the
opportunity to have a tree planted in their name

National Tree Week, organised by the Tree Council of Ireland since 1985 and in partnership with Coillte since 1989,

is a week long programme of events to celebrate all things trees. It normally takes place in the month of March.

Tetra Pak Tree Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of October every year to inspire an awareness of
trees among our younger generations.

Over 1,500 sapling trees are given out to primary schools across Ireland thanks to the generous
sponsorship of Tetra Pak in association with Avonmore School Milk.

The Tree Council along with the Irish Tree Society coordinated Ireland’s entry into the European Tree of the Year 2020.
We were proud to support The Witches Yew in Blarney Castle, Co. Cork. The eventual winner of the competition was the Czech Republic with its entry 'The Guardian of the Flooded Village'

The Tidy Towns Tree Project Award worth €1,000 is a special competition sponsored by the Tree Council of Ireland
as part of the annual National Tidy Towns Competition.
