Larix decidua

European Larch

Larch trees have clusters of soft, needle-like leaves that grow in dense spirals along the branches. These needles are typically light green to bright green in colour and turn yellow and then brown in autumn before shedding for the winter. These trees produce small, woody cones that are typically upright and cylindrical in shape. These cones contain the seeds of the tree and can remain on the branches for several years before opening and dispersing their seeds. The bark of larch trees is typically grey to brown in colour and becomes deeply furrowed with age. Up to 45m.
