One of the Tree Council of Ireland's most enduring legacy projects was the creation of the Millennium Arboretum at St. Anne’s Park in 1988, in partnership with Dublin City Council, as part of the celebrations marking Dublin’s Millennium. Today, it remains one of Ireland’s most significant urban tree collections, showcasing an impressive diversity of native Irish and ornamental tree species.
The arboretum was established to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and importance of trees while providing a living resource for education, conservation, research, and public enjoyment. More than three decades later, it continues to inspire visitors of all ages, demonstrating the vital role trees play in supporting biodiversity, enriching our landscapes, and enhancing the quality of life in our towns and cities.
The Millennium Arboretum reflects the Tree Council of Ireland’s long-standing commitment to promoting the planting, protection, and appreciation of trees. As a lasting legacy of collaboration between the Tree Council of Ireland and Dublin City Council, it continues to serve as a place of learning, recreation, and environmental awareness, encouraging present and future generations to value and protect Ireland’s rich tree heritage.
