TREE COUNCIL OF IRELAND
Our Flagship Project
Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford
In 2022, the Tree Council acquired a 20-acre plot of land in Ballymacarbry, County Waterford, marking a significant step toward its long-term vision of environmental stewardship and public engagement. A comprehensive development plan is currently in progress to transform the site into a vibrant public woodland sanctuary that will serve both recreational and research purposes.
The envisioned sanctuary will feature carefully integrated natural elements, including streams and ponds, designed to enrich the landscape’s natural beauty and promote greater ecological diversity. These enhancements will also create habitats for a wide range of native flora and fauna, supporting biodiversity and long-term conservation goals.
Planting has already begun on sections of the land, made possible by the generous support of committed sponsors. Their contributions have been instrumental in kickstarting the project and laying the groundwork for its continued growth.
All necessary planning permissions and regulatory licenses have been secured, clearing the way for the next phase of development. With the legal and logistical foundations now in place, the Tree Council is poised to unlock the full potential of this unique site as a living, breathing space for nature, education, and community connection.
Our Tree Planting Collaborations
Over the years, the Tree Council of Ireland has built strong, lasting partnerships with local authorities, educational institutions, community groups, and private companies to establish native woodlands across the country.
These collaborations have been instrumental in promoting sustainable forestry, enhancing biodiversity, and inspiring public engagement with the natural world. Together, we have helped plant thousands of native trees in both urban and rural areas, creating green spaces that not only support wildlife but also enhance the health and well-being of our communities.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors and partners. One of our long-standing collaborators is Coillte, whose generous support has been central to the success of National Tree Week. Each year, Coillte donates thousands of native trees, enabling the Tree Council of Ireland to distribute them to communities throughout the country. This invaluable contribution empowers schools, local groups, and individuals to take direct action by planting trees and creating a greener, healthier environment for future generations.
We are also proud to work with a growing network of organisations and individuals who share our vision for a greener Ireland. Through these partnerships, sponsors make a meaningful contribution to tackling climate change, enhancing biodiversity, supporting local communities, and creating a lasting environmental legacy. We are delighted to showcase some of these collaborations below.
Supporting our work means more than planting trees; it is an investment in a healthier, more sustainable Ireland for generations to come.
If you or your organisation would like to become part of this journey, we would be delighted to hear from you.
