TREE COUNCIL OF IRELAND

Since 1985, the Tree Council of Ireland has created native woodlands across the country, including beautiful and ecologically rich sites such as Aurora in Glencree, Co. Wicklow; Muckross Forest in Killarney; Strokestown House in Co. Roscommon; Birr Castle in Co. Offaly; and Larch Hill in Co. Dublin. These forests not only stand as a testament to our commitment to biodiversity and sustainability, but also offer individuals and organisations a meaningful way to be part of Ireland’s reforestation journey.

Through our Tree Sponsorship Scheme, people can sponsor a tree to mark a special occasion, honour a loved one, or simply contribute to the protection and restoration of Ireland’s natural heritage. For a once-off contribution, a native tree is planted in one of our carefully chosen woodland sites, such as Avoca in Wicklow, Bansha in Tipperary, or along the Wicklow Way. Every tree is assigned a unique number and includes a personalised certificate. Once established, these trees become part of thriving, biodiverse woodlands that will stand for generations.

Crucially, none of this work would be possible without the unwavering support of our incredible team of volunteers, whose time and effort ensure the success of every planting season. Equally vital are the generous landowners across Ireland who donate or make land available for planting, helping to create space for future forests and contribute meaningfully to national reforestation efforts.

Importantly, the scheme also helps fund our wider mission, as the Tree Council is an independent charity that receives no regular state funding.

The Tree Sponsorship Scheme is not just about planting trees, it is about growing a legacy of hope, resilience, and environmental stewardship that will benefit all of Ireland for years to come.
