To mark SPAR’s 60th anniversary in Ireland in 2023, the company launched the ambitious Team Tree initiative. As part of this nationwide project, 20,000 native Irish trees were planted across the country, creating new woodland areas and leaving a lasting environmental legacy to celebrate this significant milestone.
SPAR has a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and has been a valued partner of the Tree Council of Ireland over many years. Through its sponsorship of National Tree Day, held annually each October, SPAR helped inspire thousands of schoolchildren throughout Ireland to plant native trees and learn about the importance of protecting the natural environment. The initiative encouraged young people to take positive action for biodiversity while fostering a lifelong appreciation of Ireland’s trees and woodlands.
The Team Tree initiative builds on this legacy by making a significant contribution to the expansion of Ireland’s native tree cover. The newly established woodlands will provide important habitats for wildlife, enhance biodiversity, capture carbon, and strengthen the resilience of local ecosystems for generations to come.
Through both Team Tree and its longstanding partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland, SPAR has demonstrated how sustained collaboration between business and environmental organisations can create meaningful, long-term benefits for communities, biodiversity, and Ireland’s natural heritage.
